Explanation Of Terms

Visible Light: radiant energy from 380nm - 780nm wavelengths

% Transmittance: percentage of visible light directly transmitted through glass
% Reflectance Int.: percentage of visible light directly reflected indoors from glass
% Reflectance Ext.: percentage of visible light directly reflected outdoors from glass

Solar Energy: the sun's radiant energy, ranging from 300nm - 4000nm wavelengths

% Transmittance: percentage of solar energy directly transmitted through glass
% Reflectance Ext.: percentage of solar energy directly reflected outdoors from glass

U-Value: air-to-air thermal conductance of glass and associated air/gas layers; units are Btu/hr.ft2 deg F

Shading Coeff.: fraction of solar heat, direct plus indirect transferred indoors through glass (for reference, 1/8" clear glass has a Shading Coeff. of 1.00)

SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient): fraction of solar energy transferred indoors both directly (radiation) and indirectly (convection/absorption/re-radiation) through the glass (for reference, 1/8" clear glass has a SHGC of 0.86)

Relative Heat Gain: total net gain to indoor heat due to both air-to-air thermal conductance and solar heat gain; units are Btu/hr.ft2
